Update

I cant begin to tell you how very happy we are that Phoenix is finally here.! Today is Christmas, its only 4am here and i just managed to feed him a little bit before he fell asleep again. Man, they should warn big breasted women how painful it is when the milk comes in at first. OUCH!! Sarah is sleeping right now and then we will open presents here and have coffee then head to her parents for breakfast and more present opening. Her parents and great grandparents are very proud to have a new grandbaby. Especially one so perfect as he. Sarah and i opened our traditional Xmas eve present and i got an awesome red frying pan( for a chef, and awesome present) and i gave her an african drum, which i bought off ebay and arrived yesterday via mail thank heavens!
So about baby right now lets see... he weighed in at 8 lbs 3 oz yesterday when we took him in for his followup jandis test, which came back clear. He has been opening his eyes lots and has an unbelievable amount of neck strength. From day one he basically held up his own head. He has a good grip as well. He decided he likes my nipples as a pacifier and as painful as it was i was ok with it because i didnt want to use a soother but last night i caved in. What a saving grace that is i tell ya. I didnt want to use an soothers on him until he was at least, and i mean at least a month old. But what can you do? We picked up an electric breast pump yesterday and tried to figure that all out since my boobies are so big and full right now. Pumped a bit out so sarah could feed him, it was super cute :) We also gave him his first home bath today. He liked it way better than the bath demo they gave him at the hospital so that was a bit relieving. We are still using disposable diapers because he hasnt finished with the thick poop yet. But he really doesnt need a change very often. He is such a good boy. Well thats about it for now, lets talk about the birth now for a bit.
So as you know by following I was suppose to be induced on the 22nd. Well that following day i had been having small contrations about half hour apart all day. Throughout the night they got stronger and closer together. All I could do was shower and listen to my hypnobirthing cd. I tried to let sarah sleep as much as possible knowing i would need her full attention the next day. So we woke up at 6:30 and my contractions were roughly 7-8 min apart. Sarah made some breakfast and we headed off to the hospital. We booked a private room, which was awesome because there were 10 babies born that same day, and laboring beside someone wasnt an option for me. Sarahs mom showed up at about 8:30 with smiles and cheer, which was refreshing . The OB came by at around 9am to check me out and i was 2cm stretching to 5cm. She laughed and said it was thin and like an elastic. So we decided to break my water. Holy moly was there alot of that in there haha. 9:30 that was that. There was a little bit of confusion over who would be delievering but was all sorted out and our dr was to arrive by 3. Which i guess under normal circumstances would be plenty of time. I had monitors hooked up for his heart beat and mine and one for contractions. About an hour and a half later when everything looked fine they put this fetal heart rate monitor on his head so i was able to be more active. That was perfect because by that point i wanted to have a shower. I will never recommend that to someone in our hosptial. Maybe because there were so many people there but the water kept chaning temps and was mostly chilly and did not really do what i needed it to. I was hurting pretty bad by this point and remember telling sarah i wanted to get an epidural. LOL Well i got dry and back in bed, and the nurse came in to see how i was doing. I told her i wanted an epidural i think but what else can i have first? She said fentalyn but later found out my doc only ordered morphine. So morphine it was. They also put gravol in because by this point i had thrown up all over the bathroom and had gone through at least 3 vomit bags. I was nausious pretty badly. They checked me again at about 11:45. My mother in law had a hair apt so she took off at noon and i was measuring 3-5 cm. The contrations got stronger and at her arrival at 12:30 I was measuring 8 cm. Nurses came and left throughout this time and checked my stats, my blood pressure, took blood samples. the whole time all i remember was them saying, oh my god shes doing so good. One nurse said she couldnt even tell i was in labor i was being so quiet. HAHAHA I dont remember too much other than Sarah massaged my back the WHOLE time. She was amazing! I had told the nurse there that i felt the urge to push but she told me to fight it because i wasnt fully dialtled. At about 1 they brought me to the birth room. The nurse told me we were walking and i told her i didnt think i could, Sarah told me later that she roller eyes and chuckles. By this time I had labored without any whining or complaning and i was saying that, i guess it was funny. By then the morphine kicked in, although i was in alot of pain i pushed it away and stayed calm. Not even 15 min later i was checked and ready to go. Our doctor wasnt there and they phoned her, she was waiting for childcare but my baby wodlnt wait for her. They checked me again and i was 10cm, ready to go! I went with one contraction and pushed, his head was already peekin out and sarah and her mom peeked at it. I guess it looked like a brain at this point. The nurses phone my doc again and told her i coudlnt wait anymore but she said she was on her way. Another contraction and his head was half out. They used lots o mineral oil which was awesome. I waited through one contraction to let it stretch as bet as possible and then one more contraction and i was pushing him out, I guess by this point his sholders were stuck because our nurse holleref for another set of hands, and my legs went up in the air. there must have been like 6 sets of hands down there and what only seemed like a quick second later out comes this baby onto my chest. He wasnt breathing though so the cut his cord and took him to the warmer where they worked on him. They had him breathing right away but he woudlnt cry. He must have had lots of stuff in his system. He pooped on his way out too, so that was fun haha. It was good though becuase most of the tar was gone by his second diaper change. Well the doc showed up at this point. And went to assist baby while the nurse came back to deliever the placenta. Which was gross but apparently very healthy looking. Finally I heard Phoenix cry and I was soo happy. Our doc appoligized lots and i was a little upset she didnt make it. If someone seriously happened I dont know what i would have done. She stitched me up, I had a small 2nd degree tear. Not that bad apparently but it sure hurts these days! Phoenix was born at 1:57pm weighing in at 8 lbs 9 oz, 23 and 3/4 inches long. Blonde hair, lots of it though, but he looks bald because it is so white. He is perfect, and honestly, I had an amazing labor experience. My support team was awesome and the nurses really were amazing'! I could not have asked for a better birth team if i had picked them out myself. Which by the way, our doula didnt make it, she is 2 hours away and there was a HUGE snow storm so we told her not to come. WE are ver happy with how things went and Sarah has changed her mind and wants to have a baby, even though she swears she is getting any and all drugs offered. hahah she is proud of me and says im a trooper. I think i did well myself, but more so, I cant believe how perfect our son is.
Wishing you all a joyus Chistmas filled with love and laughter. ~XOXOX

3 days left!
As for the membrane sweep, i guess it didnt take as theres still no baby. I did have a little cramping and i lost my MP yesterday. Ick! Today its sooo cold out. the last week its been like a chilling -40C with the wind chill . Dogs havent been walked ina few days and i feel bad but its too cold. they say 5 mintues outside and frost bite so they will have to wait for a bit. So we have been playing inside a bit more with them to keep them a little active. Im almost getting tired of all the people messaging me to ask if baby is here yet. Obviously he isnt or it would say right lol maybe im just getting a little impatient. I really thought he would be earlier than the 14th. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
Im starting to get scared about the delivery but i just try and focus and remain calm and then i remember that it cant be that bad or people woudlnt choose to do it naturally :) Hope all is well out there. Keep watching for more news!

Self induction recipie (yummy)
Also, my god mother, Mary ( http://www.cowichanbirthwise.ca/) keeps telling me that visualizing is the key so keep that in mind!
Eggplant Parmesan alla Scalini's
Ingredients:
3 medium size eggplants
1 cup of flour
6 eggs, beaten
4 cups fine Italian bread crumbs, seasoned
Olive oil for sautéing
8 cups of marinara sauce*
1/2 cup of grated Romano cheese
1/2 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
1/2 lbs of mozzarella cheese shredded
2 cups of ricotta cheese
Instructions:
After you wash the eggplant, slice them into 1/4 inch thick slices. You may choose to peel the eggplant before you slice it; however you may want to leave the skin on since the skin contains a lot of vitamins. Place the eggplant slices on a layer of paper towels and sprinkle with a little salt, then cover with another layer of paper towels and hold it down with something heavy. This will drain the excess moisture. Let them set for about an hour.
Working with one slice of eggplant at a time, dust with flour, then dip in beaten eggs, then coat well with bread crumbs. Saute' in preheated olive oil on both sides until golden brown.
In baking dish, alternate layers of marinara sauce, eggplant slices, ricotta, parmesan, and Romano cheeses, until you fill the baking dish about a 1/8 inch from the top. Cover with shredded mozzarella cheese and bake for 25 minutes in 375 degree oven. Let set for 10 minutes before serving.
Scalini's Marinara Sauce
2 tablespoons of chopped garlic
3 tablespoons of olive oil
8 cups chopped tomatoes (fresh or canned)
1 cup onions chopped
1/2 cup of fresh chopped parsley
1 teaspoon of oregano
1 teaspoon of crushed red pepper
1/8 cup of fresh chopped sweet basil
Pinch of thyme
Pinch of rosemary
One teaspoon salt
One teaspoon black pepper
Lightly sauté the onions in olive oil in large pot for a few minutes. Add garlic and saute' another minute. Add tomatoes and bring sauce to boil, then turn heat to low. Add remaining ingredients, stir, cover and let simmer for one hour, stirring occasionally.

Countdown time
Sorry its been so long since I've actually wrote on here. Life is hectic right now between baby and xmas. Trying to get everything ready for both things is tough. We are the first on our block to have our xmas lights up which is awesome, maybe people will be inspired to decorate this year. Last year our block was lame and there was only us and 2 other homes that had lights out. Hopefully people will be more in the xmas spirit this year. Yesterday I posted some pics of our new stroller/car seat. It was nice to put it together and figure out all the perks. Like its 5 point harness. Yippee! Well the count down continues, 25 days until my EDD! However I think that he will be early. Im down to my weekly dr apts. so I guess in 2 more week we will figure out how far along im getting. Hope you are all well and enjoying this beautiful weather. Its upsetting that we will probably have a brown xmas this year being that baby P will be here but its hard to complain when we're still in the positives.Wednesday, November 18, 2009

H1N1???

1. The information provided was to inform against vaccination.
2. We were highly encouraged to not vaccinate for the H1N1, especially if you are pregnant. The additives/preservatives affect child's brain development as well as their organs. The paper insert of the vaccine says that pregnant women should not take the vaccine b/c of the amount of alluminium is too high and would be toxic for the fetus. There will be another ingredient called squalene inserted instead in the November flu vaccine. But this ingredient is also highly controversial.
3. Vaccine goes to baby when you breastfeed
4. Most additives/preservatives are poisonous to the human body. There has been a debate about whether or not they are poisonous in small quantities and research has demonstrated that even in trace amounts they are poisonous.
5. Theses poisons are : alum, mercury, lead, alluminium phosphate, arsenic, anti-freeze, phenol, acetone, formaldehyde, glycerin, monosodium glutamate, cadmium.
6. There are also animal ingredients and our bodies react adversely to these tissues. The body will attack itself because it sees these tissues as foreign agents. This is linked with the development of allergies in adult life as we start having auto-immune issues. These ingredients are fecal matter, calf serum, rabbit brain, pig and horse blood, monkey kidneys, yeast proteins, and aborted baby tissue.
7. Vaccines cause ischemia (impaired blood flow). This lack of oxygen going to the brain causes microvascular strokes in the brain which cause palsies as well as speech and comprehension pathologies. These stokes can heal (especially if the dose of vaccines was small) but the more strokes we have the slower the brain recovers.
8. Suppresses baby's ability to develop their own immune system
9. Causes a number of illnesses: cancer, dementia, diabetes, infertility, autism, learning disability, bipolar, attention deficit disorder, chronic fatigue, asthma, etc.
10. Vaccines did not eradicate illnesses. They were introduced when these illnesses were already going away. What got rid of major diseases was increased sanitation, personal hygiene, fresh food, and clean water.

Road trip!

We also headed to Grande Prairie, which is even more north from there by an hour. We met up with my cousins who were more than happy to awake my sleeping tummy with shakes and noises hahaha. We stayed there for a few hours and it was amazing to see how fast their kids have grown. After leaving there with another big bag of baby stuff we headed to see Sarahs friend from Vancouver. She has an adorable baby girl, 1 years old. They gave us some clothes and a baby sling which is amazing. Our car was so full on our way home that we could barely see out of the back window. We left on tuesday morning but stopped in Edmonton to do some shopping for mommies :) Sarah got some work clothes and i picked out some maternity clothes for the colder months that are about to hit us. It was a great trip and when we got home, Sarah read a book to baby and we fell asleep. Thanks for tuning in guys. :)
